What is an Exercise Physiologist (EP)?

EPs are allied health professionals who specialise in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries. EPs provide physical activity and behaviour change support for clients with conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, cancer, arthritis, musculoskeletal pain and many more.
EP’s are accredited and can therefore register with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and Private Health Insurers (including HICAPs). EPs can also provide conditioning programs for people on WorkCover and other compensation schemes.

How can an Exercise Physiologist help me?

Some conditions can be prevented, controlled or even reversed with simple changes to lifestyle. Small changes in physical activity can enhance the quality of life of many people living with these conditions.
But with so many mixed messages about what type of physical activity and how much is beneficial – how do you know where to start? An Exercise Physiologist can help you by:
 Providing evidence-based information about how physical activity can help you and your condition.
 Designing a suitable and safe exercise program that you can stick to and motivating you to do it!

Exercise Physiology at Entire Health – Our Services explained

Rehabilitation and Pilates Therapy

Exercise therapy is a great way to improve general condition without going to a gym. Even with an injury exacerbated by certain exercises, a suitable exercise program can improve your condition without worsening symptoms. A well structured, graded exercise program will improve weight and pain management to enable an earlier return to daily activities or sport.

Sport Performance

On your way to the Olympics or just enjoy playing sport for fitness, we can help you get the most out of your body. By improving your body’s movement efficiency you can conserve energy, improve maximal performance and reduce injury risk.

Hydrotherapy

Water based therapy is ideal for almost everyone, even if you can’t swim! Both shallow & deep water exercises can be done to improve pain, muscle imbalances and general cardiovascular fitness. Being submerged in water is great for weight loss, especially with knee or back problems.

Core stability, hip stability and postural correction exercises

Many of us have poor posture which can be improved. Or maybe you suffer from back, neck and hip pain that is made worse by poor movement control? EPs can look at your movements in detail and get the correct muscles working, helping you in the long term to prevent and manage many of aches and pains.

Pain management

Chronic Pain is now a diagnosable condition which you can suffer from in the absence of tissue injury. One of the best ways to manage Chronic Pain (& prevent it limiting daily function) is to perform a regular exercise routine.
Exercise is an integral part of improving general conditioning, nervous system function and hormone control = improved quality of life!

Chronic condition prevention and management

Bottled as medicine – the benefits of exercise would be a miraculous wonder drug able to treat many chronic and complex conditions. Whether it is Type Two Diabetes, Heart disease or Depression, there are a myriad of benefits that can be gained by doing regular exercise. Some conditions can even be reversed and prevented by a well structured exercise program.

Lifestyle Programs

Lifestyle programs such as the ‘Healthy Eating Activity and Lifestyle’ (HEAL) Programs are lifestyle modification program that enables participants to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity behaviours. HEAL™ consists of 8 weekly group education and group exercise sessions as well as individual consultations pre- and post-program and 5 and 12 month follow-up health consultations.
