At the start of November 2013 Raph, one of our massage therapists at Entire Health, spent two weeks in China with the Australian ‘Budget Forklift’ professional cycling team as a soigneur. This role involved giving remedial/sports massage treatment to the 6 riders each day. Raph was also responsible for organising their race food and drinks, clothing, rooms and escorting the riders to and from each stage. Being a keen cyclist and triathlete himself, Raph jumped at the chance to gain the experience that this trip offered.

The cyclists competed in two events. The first was a 9 day stage race “Tour of Taihu Lake 2013” followed by another several days later – the one day “Tour of Nanjing”. The team had some great results, winning the Young Rider award and Stage 6 of the Tour of Taihu Lake. They also gained a 2nd, five 4 th placings and a 7th place throughout the 9 stages, which covered 990km. They then placed 4th in the Tour of Nanjing.

Raph would like to recognise the excellent organisation by management on the Australian component of the tour. He had a great time working with the young (19-26 years) elite team and says it was a pleasure and great experience.
